A VISION FOR MY FAMILY
PSALM 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
One of the most important things that we can learn to do as followers of Christ is to pray scripture over our families. Psalm 23 is a beautiful reminder of God's constant care and provision, making it a fantastic scripture to pray over your family. Whether you are married, single, have kids, or do not, praying for and getting God’s vision for your family is vital. God wants to move in new and mighty way this year in your family and you are able to get a renewing passion for each one of your family members that begins with prayer.
Today, we are going to use Psalm 23 to be our prayer guide —
PSALM 23:1 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
Begin by thanking God for being the ultimate provider. Pray that your family would recognize His provision in every aspect of life—whether in needs, relationships, or spiritual growth. Ask for contentment and trust in His abundant care.
PSALM 23:2 "He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters."
Pray for peace and rest in your home. Ask God to guide each family member to find quiet moments with Him and for His presence to calm any anxiety or turmoil. Pray for restorative rest and an environment filled with peace.
PSALM 23:3 "He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake."
Lift up the spiritual well-being of your family. Pray that each member would feel the restoration of their souls through God’s love and guidance. Ask for wisdom for each person to walk in His righteousness and follow His path.
PSALM 23:4 "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
Acknowledge that life has its challenges, but pray for courage and strength in difficult times. Ask for God’s protection over your family, particularly during trials or struggles. May His presence bring comfort and assurance that He is always near.
PSALM 23:5 "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows."
Pray for God’s blessings, protection, and favor in your family’s life. Ask that He would provide abundantly, filling your home with His goodness. Pray for victory over any spiritual or emotional struggles your family might face, knowing that God's love overflows.
PSALM 23:6 "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Finish by praying for God's continual goodness and mercy to surround your family each day. Ask that His presence would fill your home and that you would all grow in your relationship with Him, confident in His eternal promises.
