WHERE NOW IS THE GOD OF ELIJAH | VISION SUNDAY
Pastor Eli Nelson
What Is Vision Sunday?
Vision Sunday is a defining moment for My City Church—a time to reflect on God's faithfulness, declare His promises, and align our hearts with His purpose. This year, our theme is "Why Not Here?"—a declaration that if God has moved in the past, He can and will do it again in our church, our city, and our lives.
The Call to Faith: Lessons from Elijah and Elisha
In 2 Kings 2, we witness a powerful moment between Elijah and Elisha, two of the most significant prophets in the Bible. As Elijah is taken up to heaven in a whirlwind, his mantle (cloak) falls to the ground—a symbol of spiritual authority, legacy, and anointing.
Elisha picks up the mantle and declares, "Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?" (2 Kings 2:14). It wasn't a question of doubt—it was a statement of faith. He knew that the same God who moved through Elijah was still present and active.
What Does This Mean for Us?
We, too, stand at a defining moment. We see God’s power and miracles in the past, but are we willing to believe He will move again today? When faced with challenges in our faith, family, finances, or future, we must declare:
Why not here?
Why not now?
Why not in my life, my church, and my city?
Faith Requires Action: Picking Up the Mantle
Just as Elisha picked up Elijah’s cloak and struck the Jordan River, signaling the beginning of his own prophetic journey, we must also take hold of the promises of God in our lives.
Are You Standing on the Sidelines or Stepping into God's Plan?
Many of us hear the truth of God’s Word but hesitate to apply it. We believe in miracles for others, but doubt if God will do the same for us. That ends today.
If God restored marriages before, why not in your marriage?
If God healed sickness before, why not in your body?
If God called the prodigal home before, why not your son or daughter?
If God provided supernaturally before, why not in your finances?
God’s power is not a past event—it’s a present reality. It’s time to stop questioning and start claiming the truth of Scripture over our lives.
From Hearing to Believing: The Woman with the Issue of Blood
In Mark 5:27, a woman who had suffered for 12 years heard about Jesus and acted in faith by reaching out to touch His cloak. Her healing was activated the moment she believed.
What have you heard about God that you need to grab hold of today?
Have you heard that He is a provider? Then declare financial breakthrough.
Have you heard that He restores broken things? Then believe for healing and reconciliation.
Have you heard that He still moves in power? Then step out in faith and expect miracles.
"Why Not Here?"—A Declaration for 2025
As a church, we are stepping into a new season of faith. We will no longer settle for hearing about God’s power—we will walk in it.
This Year, We Will Declare:
🔥 "Why not here?" when we pray for healing.
🔥 "Why not here?" when we believe for revival.
🔥 "Why not here?" when we ask for God’s provision.
🔥 "Why not here?" when we proclaim breakthroughs in families and communities.
Just as Elisha boldly struck the Jordan River, let us boldly declare that the same God who moved before is moving NOW. This is our time. This is our place. This is our season.
Final Call: Will You Pick Up the Mantle?
The power of God is not reserved for the past—it is available to those who believe and act in faith. Today, God is calling you to:
✅ Step out in boldness.
✅ Speak His promises over your life.
✅ Declare His power over your situation.
✅ Claim the victory that is already yours in Christ.
Why not here? Why not now? Why not you?
